Why Winter is "Peel Season" for Your Skin

Have you heard the term “peel season” before? We’re talking about chemical peels! Chemical peels are a great way to help clean up pigmentation, even out texture, and clear up acne. Peel season and Laser season are one in the same because we want you to avoid the same thing when getting those treatments and the after care is very similar. While we don’t have as much sunlight, and we’re not outside as much, now is a great time to try out a chemical peel.

What Actually Is A Chemical Peel?

Chemical Peels are acidic solutions that exfoliate the skin and remove damaged cells to reveal smoother, clearer, healthier skin. They can be single acid, like Glycolic acid or TCA, or a combination of multiple acids to target specific skin concerns. There are three different depths of chemical peels; light, medium, and deep. Light peels will be superficial, penetrating the epidermis with minimal downtime. Medium depth peels, penetrate the entire epidermis and upper part of the dermis; you are more likely to experience intensive peeling depending on your skin. Deep depth peels, penetrate the mid to lower dermis. This level of peel is the least common and typically is performed by a doctor. At Petal + Stem, we offer light & medium depth peels.

What Kind Of Downtime Is Expected?

Light depth you most likely will not see any peeling, but you should still treat your skin carefully for at least 48-72 hours afterwards. Medium depth, you may see more intense peeling for about 5-7 days. It is very important you do not pick at the skin that is flaking or peeling off as this could cause scarring, hyperpigmentation, or hypopigmentation. When your skin is in a healing state, we want you to avoid direct sunlight or using harsh exfoliating products. You want to use gentle, moisturizing skincare with SPF in the morning and avoid excessive heat or sweating. That means no saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, or an intense sweaty workout!

What Will My Results Be Like?

To get the most out of your treatment, we recommend peels be done in a series, like most aesthetics treatments. We want you to maximize your cumulative benefits by building upon the results of previous visits. A single session may initiate a change, but repeated sessions are needed to reinforce and consolidate those changes for lasting results. Peels are spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Depending on your skin needs, we select a peel most aligned with targeting your concerns and the number of peels most likely needed. Peels can target concerns like laxity, fine lines & wrinkles, pigmentation, acne, acne scaring, and overall skin texture & tone. We are happy to create a treatment plan for you with a well-rounded home-care routine and in-office treatments based on your concerns and goals.

Combining Peels With Other Treatments

One of the best things about the chemical peels we offer at Petal + Stem is the ability to get your neurotoxin done the same day following the peel. Nicknamed the GlowTox treatment, this treatment boosts your neurotoxin results, stimulates collagen production, brightens, and smooths the skin. There is also the ability to alternate between other aesthetic treatments like Microchanneling, MOXI laser, Broad Band Light, and Hydrafacials. Stacked treatments or multi-modality plans enhance results by synergistically addressing various concerns, leading to more comprehensive and longer-lasting results.
